Lift method

I'm revisiting the lift methid on the canal this year. I'd talked myself into believing the oft present gentle tow would disrupt the finesse of this approach but, when i used it as described below last week, it worked like a dream with the antenna rising sharply but time aplenty to nail two tench and three decent bream.

Do you like to use just enough weight near the hook to sink the float or much more? I'm using a 2AA float with a long insert tightened to half an inch, the minimum my eyes will accept!. 2-4 inches from the hook I'm using 2SSG so well overweight.

I think the extra weight helps prick the fish?

I'd be interested in others thoughts and experiences.
